Legendary Warsaw (walk or workshop at the Museum)<\/h3>\n

Let us search for the clues from the Warsaw legends! We will discover that in Warsaw the fantasy world permeates the real one, and seemingly ordinary objects and locations turn into elements straight from magical tales.<\/p>\n

The story is enriched with fun facts, and various activities will let us see the familiar motifs in an altogether new light.<\/p>\n

About the river<\/h3>\n

The Vistula River is inextricably linked with the history and the present-day of Warsaw. We will look at the representations of Vistula from different eras and talk about its influence on the lives of the capital city’s inhabitants. What elements do most often recur in paintings and prints? Why? At the end, we will create together a three-dimensional representation of the Vistula River and its surroundings.<\/p>\n

What do the buildings tell us?<\/h3>\n

During the workshop, we participate in discovering the past. Like detectives, we seek traces of life of the former residents of the tenement houses in Warsaw’s Old Town. We find out why cellars were extended, what the Gothic recess was used for and what is the origin of the word “store”. Would a tenement house of the past fulfil the needs of today’s Varsovians?<\/p>\n

Monsters and demons (a walk)<\/h3>\n

During the walk, we do not talk about brave mermaids, good-natured shoemakers and enchanted princes. We talk ghosts, monsters and even the devil himself! We follow in the footsteps of dark and mysterious stories. We find out which places are still haunted today and how we can protect ourselves from the demons from Warsaw legends.<\/p>\n

\n

A Varsovian\u2019s new clothes<\/h3>\n

Would Queen Marysie\u0144ka look good in a uniform? The participants will learn about clothes from different epochs. What can be emphasised by clothing and what can be hidden by it? Does clothing always define a person accurately? Based on selected garments, the children will try to guess the traits and professions of the people whose portraits are on display. At the end, they will dress up individual figures in the outfits deemed as most suitable for them.<\/p>\n

\n

The madness of collecting<\/h3>\n

The Museum of Warsaw holds unique collections. The participants will look at objects collected in each Room and seek a key that connects them all. They will wonder if any given object could stir an interest of collectors, and estimate the material and non-material worth of collecting. They will also get to know the specifics of museum collections.<\/p>\n

A Warsaw start \u2013 up<\/h3>\n

The city\u2019s history is also the history of Warsaw-based companies and the entrepreneurs who used to run them. Even though new, contemporary business models are in place today, a success achieved once by local companies may serve as an interesting material for analysis. Inspired by these stories and the model of building start-ups, the participants will design their own business which would serve as a flagship business for Warsaw today.<\/p>\n

A thing in the Museum<\/h3>\n

What is the significance of the things collected at the Warsaw Museum? Why were they included in the exhibition? What can we learn from them? The unusual concept of the main exhibition encourages being aware of what one sees in the exposition, asking questions and seeking answers. We will ponder over the angles from which things can be analysed, what information they provide, and whether a museum exhibition must consist of objects only.<\/p>\n

Warsaw design<\/h3>\n

What is good design? Can things be both pretty and practical? Can we grasp the peculiarities of Warsaw design by visiting the Things of Warsaw core exhibition, e.g. gold and plater products? We will consider why designers choose to use specific materials and whether ornamentation is purely aesthetic. Our deliberations will focus on the broadly understood concept of design\u2014we will ponder over its meaning in the past and today.<\/p>\n

A literary adventure<\/h3>\n

During a cosy family meeting, we will get acquainted with children\u2019s literature on Warsaw that is held in the library. Together, we will read selected excerpts from books, we will pretend to be book illustrators and create our own book. If we feel like it, we will produce our own bookmarks, cups and notebooks.<\/p>\n

\n

Legends in the library<\/h3>\n

During the meeting, we will get to know Warsaw legends and mythical creatures connected to the capital city. We will watch slides, play puzzles, read legends or make up our own alternative versions of stories. At the end, we will produce \u201clegendary\u201d cards, cups, bookmarks or notebooks.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Afternoon with frescoes<\/h3>\n

The library\u2019s reading room boasts unique murals. During the meeting, we will get acquainted with their history and interesting stories related to them. The participants will have an opportunity to show off their literary talents while making up dialogues inspired by the murals. We will also engage in art work. The meeting will be complemented by a film created by a pupil who, inspired by the figures in the frescoes, decided to offer them a second life\u2026<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
