A Reclaimed Metropolis: Warsaw 1915–1918
The exhibition A Reclaimed Metropolis: Warsaw 1915-1918 is a part of celebration of the hundredth anniversary of Poland regaining independence. It aims to present the city during a breakthrough period of momentous socio-political and formal-administrative change that made it possible for Warsaw to reclaim its status as a metropolis and a capital city. Limited autonomy over city governance that had been granted at the time, along with the authority to hold elections for City Council and to annex Warsaw suburbs, all provided the impulse for further development towards the capital of an independent state. The exhibition’s main premise is to highlight the importance of local history—often understated or absent from public awareness—to the history of the entire country.
