Plate with dedication
To Henryk Złotykamień on His Wedding Day. The Board of the Jewish Gymnastic and Sports Asociation “Makabi,” Warsaw, February 26, 1939
This silver plate is a memento of Henryk Złotykamień and, at the same time, a material trace of the pre-war Jewish sports club Makabi.
Henryk Złotykamień was associated with this organization, but after the Holocaust it is impossible to determine exactly how. Scraps of information can be gleaned from concise, usually fleeting accounts, from unrelated and incidental sources. These indicate that Złotykamień sat on the board of Makabi Warsaw in 1935, chaired the Audit Committee of Makabi Poland in 1936, and in 1938 became commissioner of the Gymnastics Section of Makabi Warsaw. From other notes, we learn that he was the director of an unnamed institution, or that he liked skiing.
The date engraved on the plate plate tells us that on February 26, 1939 Złotykamień got married—187 days before the outbreak of World War II, 583 days before the establishment of the Warsaw Ghetto.
